Being a refugee from a remote island in Vietnam, I was illiterate until I was eleven-years-old. I remember the first time I was able to print my full name. My family was gathered around me, and my parents and older siblings were so proud of me. They commended me for my straight strokes and crisp letters. Henceforth, literacy has been magical for me.
