Amazing gardens with glass houses as well as a country walk. Fantastic espalier fruit trees. A brilliant day out. Good lunches and a small gift shop plus a small area selling plants. Thoroughly recommend.
West Dean Gardens is one of the greatest restored Gardens open to the public in England. Wander through the 300 foot long Edwardian pergola, visit the restored Victorian glasshouses, Walled Kitchen Gardens, Sunken Garden and orchards. Finish with a walk through the arboretum, Spring Garden and the peaceful parkland.
Nestled at the foot of the South Downs, West Dean Gardens in West Sussex is one of the greatest restored gardens open to the public today. Visitors can explore a wide range of historic features on a gentle walk around the grounds. From surreal trees to the restored walled garden. 25 minutes drive from The Barn.
This is another excellent Café. A good place to start if you are visiting the gardens and arboretum. They have tables outside to tempt you into the gardens. This café is also used by students at the nearby West Dean College so you may come across enthusiastic groups of people discussing their course and work.
