Lots of trails and great sightseeing. They boast more visitors than Yellowstone National Park. Might have something to do with 9 million people living within a 2 hours drive :)
A very cool, albeit kinda far, State Park. Expect it to be pretty busy, so get there early. 10-15 miles of hiking and a good amount of stairs.
A little bit of a drive (1.5 hours), this is our favorite outdoor spot in the area. Perfect for a quick day trip.
Just a 10 minute drive from Kishauwau's Starved Rock Area Cabins with 13 Miles of gorgeous hiking and beautiful waterfalls (certain times of the year). You won't even know you are still in Illinois. Don't forget about the Starved Rock Visitor Center or Lodge to get a refreshment afterward.
