A short distance by taxi or tour van you will find the Tijuca Forest which is part of a larger national park. The Tijuca is all than remains in the Rio area of the "Mata Atlantica" (Atlantic coastal rain forest).

Located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, with access through the North, South and West zones, Tijuca National Park protects the largest urban forest in the world replanted by man, with an extension of 3,953ha of Atlantic Forest. It is the most visited National Park in Brazil, receiving more than three million visitors per year, between Brazilians and foreigners of all ages. It is, undoubtedly, a fundamental piece to make Rio the Marvelous City. Divided into four sectors - Floresta, Serra da Carioca, Pedra Bonita / Pedra da Gávea and Pretos Forros / Covanca, the PNT has program options for all audiences: from picnic areas and barbecues to free flight, climbing, trails and other activities .
