Cross Scotland’s only lake to explore a peaceful, wooded island chosen as a monastic sanctuary. Robert the Bruce sought solace at Inchmahome Priory and Mary Queen of Scots found safety here as a child.
Great place for a day out if the weather is nice - pack a picnic and take the boat across Scotland's only lake (the rest are lochs). Explore the island and what's left of the Priory, then find a quiet spot to eat lunch and enjoy the scenery.
Wonderful trip for all the family. Take the boat from Port of Menteith over to the island explore ruins of the monastery. A pleasant walk around the island in spectacular scenery (Historic Scotland)
a short drive from the pod and you will come to the historic Scotland owned Inchmahome Priory. with your entry fee you get a free trip on a boat to the island to see the remains of the abbey. You can spend all day there if you like so pack a picnic (there are toilet facilities) if you fancy. it's nice to walk round the island too.. it's not huge so won't take long. please check the historic Scotland website of opening times (close in the winter months)
