Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest is a state forest in Lake County, California that covers the northwest of Boggs Mountain. It was founded in 1949, and came into operation in 1950 when most of the site had been clear cut. The purpose was to demonstrate good practices in restoring and managing a forest.
Hiking and biking trails throughout the forrest. A lot of it was affected by the fires, but there are new trees coming back and still some nice forest areas to get some shade. Bike and hiking trails are well maintained by non-profit Friends of Boggs Mountain.
This multi-use California state forest supports logging, but also features over 22 miles of hiking trails and two campgrounds. It’s terrain includes meadows, ridge tops, dense forests of pine, canyon live oak, black oak, Western dogwood and madrone. Boggs Mountain itself is volcanic and has an elevation of 3,750 feet, offering offering diverse opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and more.
