Monja-yaki (often called simply "monja") is a specialty of Tokyo. It is similar to okonomiyaki. Tsukishima is known for its large number of restaurants serving Monja-yaki.
Monja Street is centered on Tsukishima's commercial Nishi-Nakadori Ave. About 70 monjayaki restaurants are in fierce competition to create unique flavors with their monja (a kind of savory pancake featuring cabbage and various fillings). The Tsukishima Monja Association (open year-round, 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) offers special maps and gifts.
