A beautiful castle with a breathtaking view. When the sky is clear you can even see the sea and the leaning tower of Pisa!
In ancient times it was the town court and prison of the area. you can visit the castle and the lovely village of Lari renowned for the cherries.
Lari Castle was a battallion ground between the Florence Medici (against the pope) and conserrvative Pisa that supported the clericus, while Humanism followed the medioeval thoughts. Once Lari was 'property' of Florence and Medici and once it fell back into the Pope's hand. An example of Tuscan history fought on Tuscan hills. Etruscan history and pre-historic artefacts. Very interesting castle on etruscan grounds (start aroudn 800), alas also used during inquisition, but it was a key town castle between the wars between Pisa en Florence. Watch out opening hours!
