The Supreme Court of Canada (SCC; French: Cour suprême du Canada, CSC) is the highest court in the judicial system of Canada.[1] It comprises nine justices, whose decisions are the ultimate application of Canadian law and grants permission to between 40 and 75 litigants each year to appeal decisions rendered by provincial, territorial and federal appellate courts.

Established in 1875, this body became Canada's ultimate court of appeal in 1949. The nine judges sit in their stately art deco building for three sessions each year. The 10-foot-high statues of Justice and Truth flanking the entranceway were forgotten for 50 years and then rediscovered in 1969, buried in their original shipping crates under a parking lot.

The highest judicial court in the country, and the setting for some of the country's most landmark cases welcomes visitors to tour its hallowed halls and chambers.

There's a really cool, hidden park behind the supreme court. Go to the back (where the fountain is), and then take the stairs to the left of the fountain. Cool view over the Ottawa river! From here you can continue your walk down to the river, and along the river path.
