Our nearest beach is Dawlish Warren beach (20 min drive) which is a lovely long sandy beach with a nature reserve at the rear on the dunes. There is ample parking with a fun fair park, go-karts, cafes, pub and kiosks at the car park base. It can get busy around the shops and kiosk area but if you are willing to walk a little way along the beach there is always plenty of space. We have a small dog, so we always go along to groyne 3 or beyond (dog friendly bit) and that takes us about 10 min walk with all out bags and picnic. I’ve never felt crowded at that part of the beach! You can also get to the beach by walking through the nature reserve from the car park rather than along the promenade so avoiding the crowds altogether if you wish.

"This beach is smooth and sandy with dunes further inland. It is located on the west side of the Exe Estuary. The sea water is clear and the current is normally gentle. The beach has gained the blue flag award. Jet-skiing and other water sports are common, and equipment can be hired locally. Lifeguards patrol the beach making it an ideal family venue. A nature reserve is situated close to the beach and there is reasonable disabled access. There are amusements, cafés, shops, parking and other facilities nearby."

Dawlish Warren is proud of its beach, as it has won the Blue Flag award to be a very safe beach for tourists.The beach stretches out to 1.5 miles with plenty of sand dunes.
