Trastevere is an ancient area located "on the other side of the river" (Tiber river). During its history, this area was inhabited by poor people. The result of this "cheap architecture" is the unique fashion of Trastevere in Rome. Among the small narrow streets the sunset offers extraordinary views in the relaxing atmosphere of the area, many not big squares hidden in this labyrinth, the up and down street pavimentation, the old people of the area still living there sitting among the crowd of turist, the new details after every corner. Is a city inside the city. Besides its beauty, Trastevere owns also artistic jewels. The church of Santa Maria in Trastevere contains an impressive whole- wall original mosaic from 1300 a.d. An imagine of Saint Mary painted on wood from the year 500 a.d. The colourful Altemps chapel and the wooden gold painted and decorated straight roof.
