This beautiful trail is well maintained, easy walking or biking and goes from Dollgellau to Barmouth, Why not get the bus or train part or all the way there and walk back?

Great for cycling because (being an old railway line) it's wide, safe and flat. Runs from the sea next to Fairbourne Golf club all the way to Dolgellau about 10 miles in total. Park for free on road there at Penrhyn Drive North or at Morfa Mawddach ( A stop on the main railway) if you wish to knock a couple of miles off. Morfa Mawddach is the next left after Fairbourne (very easy to miss as not well signposted) so find it on your phone map as also a great base to walk/cycle across Barmouth bridge. Bike rentals available Dolgellau, Barmouth and Coed y Brenin.

The Mawddach Trail is a stunning multi-use path following the old disused railway line about 9.5 miles along the edge of the beautiful Mawddach estuary in Southern Snowdonia. The Mawddach Trail is clearly marked and can be easily followed. ... There are car parks and entrances to the trail in all of the following locations: Y Marian, Dolgellau (LL40 1DL) Pont y Wernddu (LL40 2SR) Penmaenpool (LL40 1YD) Arthog (LL39 1AX) Morfa Mawddach (LL39 1BQ) Barmouth (LL42 1LX)

So beautiful and you can cycle it, either starting or ending at Dolgellau via Barmouth. Highly recommended. Flat route and takes about 1.5-2 hours each way. We hired bikes in Dolgellau

A great flat estuary trail out to Barmouth beach, suitable for walkers and cyclists. You can shorten the trail by hopping on at Poole Quay or beyond rather than starting at Dolgellau.
