Why look afield when there is so much close at hand? Next to the well known attractions you can explore some smaller towns nearby. One of the first things that comes to mind when thinking about Italy is wine. Being in Tuscany you should have at least one wine tasting, a charming place to do so is Montacarlo. The Tenuto di buonamico offers perfectly organized impressive tours, the Fattoria Carmignani Enzo a little more individual visits through their smaller vineyard. You should also stop to see the villas around Capannori or Collodi, the origin of Pinocchio. Our favourite place to be: The garden of the Villa Garzoni in Collodi, simply beautiful... 15 min. from the Villa Sermolli

You can easily see Montecarlo's belltower from our property: it's just to the left of Monte Pisano. Lots of vineyards and olive groves surround this prosperous village, and the main street (pedestrians only) has many cafes and restaurants serving the local wines and olive oils. There is a free parking lot just outside the city walls; leave your car there and enjoy a stroll. Great views too.

Carlo IV Great typical Tuscan Restaurant on the main square in Montecarlo (very nice little village worth a visit). Good meat or fish and pizza also. The athmosphere makes it as one of its kind. I always suggest it to my guests and no-one has ever been disappointed. The owner also run the Enoteque right in front of the restaurant where one can enjoy a good glass of wine as aperitif while waiting for dinner time. Ottimo ristorante toscano al centro della Piazza principale di Montecarlo, un piccolo borgo davvero molto carino. Si può mangiare sia carne che pesce, oppure una comoda pizza. L'atmosfera lo rende unico nel suo genere, lo consiglio spesso ai miei clienti e nessuno ne rimane insoddisfatto. Il proprietario ha anche un'enoteca di fronte al ristorante dove poter degustare dell'ottimo vino nell'attesa della cena.
