Lava trees from when fast flowing pahoehoe lava encountered Ohia trees.
This is a great little pull off to explore for about 1/2- 1. Not too treacherous, flat, paved area to walk around and explore the cool monuments left by the lava flow. Free, usually not too busy and plenty of parking. Public restrooms there as well, bring your camera and and aloha attitude and you will enjoy.
Stopping at “Lava Tree State Park” & walking around. It’s interesting because the lava crawled up trees & created lava “statues”.
