The best place in Kandy for a drink, the Royal has benefited from a stunning, sympathetic recent renovation. With a couple of atmospheric bars, a lovely central courtyard and a wonderful upper balcony-terrace

This is an old colonial officers' mess converted in to a boutique hotel, bar, and restaurant. The upstairs balcony is one of the nicest places to have a beer in Kandy town. The food from the upstairs menu is pricey and the quality is only OK. Snacks from the bar menu downstairs are cheaper, better and quite substantial. You can drink amongst the local office crowd in the courtyard. If the Sri Lankan cricket team is playing, they show the match on a large screen in the courtyard.

This building has been Interesting conserved in architectural terms. Also there are two levels to the Bar, for cheaper and a more local ambiance visit the one on the ground floor.
