The Naarden fortress has been beautifully restored. The ancient town is full of special monuments. ... Due to its strategic location, the city of Naarden was designed as a fortress with double city walls, a moat, bastions, city gates and dozens of functional buildings such as weapon storage or soldiers' quarters.

Located to the east of Amsterdam, the fortified town of Naarden is best known for its 'star fort' grid, old church and museums.
