Amazing escape from Manhattan, right in the heart of Manhattan!1 How? A disused overhead railway line has been repurposed as a walkway park. It's southernmost entry on West 14th St is very close to the Whitney Museum if you want to combine them.

The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. Saved from demolition by neighborhood residents and the City of New York, the High Line opened in 2009 as a hybrid public space where visitors experience nature, art, and design.

A must do when visiting New York. The former elevated freight line was slated for demolition and then repurposed into a public space. The entire walkway doesn't take that long to cover only there's a lot to do and see along the way.

A once-abandoned elevated train track that was transformed into a crazy-popular, bucolic walkway. It’s 1.45-mile park’s gardens, taking in sweet views of the Hudson, the Whitney Museum of Art plenty of pretty flowers and plants that are mostly indigenous to the region.

“A walk, peddle, or carriage ride through the crisscrossing pathways of Central Park is a must-do on anyone's New York City itinerary. In winter, you can even lace up your skates and glide across Wollman Rink. This huge park in the city center, a half-mile wide and 2.5 miles long, is one of the things that makes New York such a beautiful and livable city. Besides being a great place to experience a little nature, Central Park has many attractions within its borders, and most of them are free, making it one of the few cheap things to do in NYC. Some of the most popular places to visit include the Belvedere Castle, Strawberry Fields, the Central Park Zoo, and the Lake. If you are exploring the park on your own, start by picking up a map at one of the visitor centers and plot your routing.”

“The Whitney Museum compared with other NYC galleries has the best building architecturally with stunning views, so you get two for the price of one :) . Tip 1: On Friday nights it is free from 7pm, but get there earlier for the line. Tip 2: It is located in the trendy Meatpacking District, close to Chelsea Market and the High Line, so easily combined with them.”
