We believe one of the best museums in Dubrovnik is the Rectors Palace, providing a great look at Dubrovnik in the Renaissance (remember, entrance to many of these historic sites are covered by your Dubrovnik Card. The main monastic orders have a monastery and church in Dubrovnik including the museum of the Franciscan Monastery with its beautiful cloister keeps inventories of the old pharmacy, as well as the works of Dubrovnik jewelers, painters and embroiders. - The museum of the Dominican Monastery exhibits valuable examples of Dubrovnik painting from the 15th and the 16th centuries, as well as sculptures, jewelry, manuscripts and music. The treasury of the Dubrovnik Cathedral keeps the relics of St. Blaise, patron of Dubrovnik, and numerous paintings and works of art. - The Maritime Museum (situated in the fortress Sveti Ivan) is well done, with a number exhibits on permanent display, related to the maritime affairs of Dubrovnik and Croatia on the whole, with a particular emphasis on the history of the Dubrovnik Republic. - The Rupe Ethnographical Museum presents traditional occupations and the rural architecture of the region of Dubrovnik, national costumes and hand-made textiles. This is on a high spot in the old city but well worth a visit. - The Aquarium of the Institute of Biology, situated in the fortress of Sveti Ivan, comprising interesting marine species, is also very attractive. - There is also a small museum dedicated to Marin Drzic, a Dubrovnik hero of the 15th Century, that gives an insight into the man and life at that time.
