Constructed in 1858, the lighthouse became automatic, fuelled by solar power since 1995. Despite still serving shipping traffic, it is now part of the beautiful view from the beaches which surround St Ives Bay.
Fabulous cliff walk and once at the top there is a private beach where you can watch the seals
When you visit the Lighthouse, you can visit the seals at Seal Cove which is right next to the Lighthouse. One of my most favorite spots in Cornwall, just a ten minute drive from Trefewha Farm.
Just down the road and well worth a visit. Photographed, painted and written about, reference made 'In to the Lighthouse' by Virginia Wolfe. Rugged and beautiful part of the coastline. Home to many birds and a colony of seals. These can usually be seen at Mutton Cove on the coastal footpath. From the coast here you can look westwards across the Red River and see Gwithian, a beach famous for its surf. The beach is lifeguarded in the summer
