At the end of Macinaw Road is the fun Rubicon Trail. It goes both directions so you can get to the downtown the back way by bike or by foot (3 miles), or head toward Fallen Leaf lake in the other directions. You will see lots of bike riders.
The Rubicon Trail is an easy, scenic hike with incredible Lake Tahoe views! About halfway through, you'll get to see the historic Rubicon Point Lighthouse. You can also take this trail down to sandy Calawee Cove Beach for beautiful, clear water.
There are two parts. First is a fairly easy hike, nice scenery and has both paid and free parking (if you come up early). Second part is more difficult. The scenery is still (or always ) good at Tahoe and there is much smaller free parking space.

The Rubicon hike is perfect for most who can walk 7 miles or so. 400 foot gain. Start early as the parking lot at the trail fills up quickly. We usually drop off hikers at DL Bliss and pick up at Vikingsholm. This is one of my favorite summertime hikes. Such stunning views! Pack a bathing suit so…
