Take the 1 mile level walk through the giant virgin Redwoods: enter from Hwy 9. Very few of the virgin (never cut down) Redwoods are in Santa Cruz Co: this is the closest place to see them from Aptos. The other place is the Big Basin State Park past Boulder Creek.

A beautiful and popular spot to get in the woods. The most popular area, The Henry Cowell Loop, is the “Santa Cruz Boardwalk” equivalent to hiking. Can be crowded but a nice easy hike and super informative.

For the outdoor enthusiasts it's a great day trip to see the magnificent historic redwoods as well as hiking to the top for a gorgeous view of the Monterey Bay. Then you can ride the train down to Santa Cruz boardwalk and back. It's a nice treat for children or adults.
