Thousands of people take the ferry out to stand at the base of Lady Liberty every day, but only those who book months in advance can get tickets to actually climb the winding staircase to the top to peer out of the crown’s tiny windows. Ask for the Junior Ranger booklet, which allows kids to collect badges as they explore. It’s a great motivator! Make the climb to the crown easier on you and your kids by stashing snacks, jackets, and backpacks in the lockers at the crown/pedestal check-in before you begin the 20-story climb!

Take the one train (just 300 yards from your apt) downtown to the last stop and get on the Staten Island ferry for incredible views of the Statue of Liberty. It might still be free, if not, it is not expensive.

Lady Liberty!! You can't leave New York without giving her a visit. Make sure you buy your tickets online or at the Battery Fort. You will meet people along the way trying to sell you tickets at 'reduced' fares...STAY AWAY. A free way to see her is by taking the Staten Island ferry...but you won't…

You can take a ferry to see it, or jump on a sightseeing cruise which does the same trick :-)

Parque
“A walk, peddle, or carriage ride through the crisscrossing pathways of Central Park is a must-do on anyone's New York City itinerary. In winter, you can even lace up your skates and glide across Wollman Rink. This huge park in the city center, a half-mile wide and 2.5 miles long, is one of the things that makes New York such a beautiful and livable city. Besides being a great place to experience a little nature, Central Park has many attractions within its borders, and most of them are free, making it one of the few cheap things to do in NYC. Some of the most popular places to visit include the Belvedere Castle, Strawberry Fields, the Central Park Zoo, and the Lake. If you are exploring the park on your own, start by picking up a map at one of the visitor centers and plot your routing.”
