Head out towards Glenorchy on the Sunshine Bay track and enjoy the views across the lake to Cecil and Walter Peaks. Watch the Earnslaw steam her way to Walter Peak, and the many other lake cruise vessels take to the water with waving visitors on-board. Then head through native bush to reach Sunshine Bay’s jetty. There’s also a side-track that leads to a waterfall at Two Mile Creek Falls.

An easy walk along the lake. The walk takes you from Fernhill to Queenstown centre, takes about 45-60 min from the AirBnb. It is popular with locals, they come there to jog or walk with their dogs. Alfy loves this walk! To start the walk, turn right to Watts road from the Wye place and then turn right again on Fernhill road (the road goes downhill). Follow Fernhill road all the way to Glenorchy road, and then cross Glenorchy road (please be careful, it is 100 km/h road). Once you cross the road, there will be a tree stump and a hike track going doing down from the stump. Follow the track down to the lake, and you will reach the Sunshine Bay Walking Track. If you turn left, it will take you all the way to Queenstown, the tack goes along the lake. If you turn right, it will take you to Sunshine Bay Beach (~10-15 min walk)– a local’s favourite for a chilled afternoon by the lake (perfect for a picnic on a sunny day or reading a book disconnected from the world).

An easier, scenic route for that day you just want to take it easy and enjoy the sea! Time: 30 mins – 1 hour each way Distance: 4-5km each way Gradient: easy-moderate (a couple of uphill bits but nothing too challenging) Starting point: Queenstown city centre Top tip: Don’t miss the side-track that leads to a waterfall at Two Mile Creek Falls!
