It is an icon of Yogyakarta where it's a must to go place when you want to buy clothes, souvenirs, and many interesting things. It's jump pack with tourists and locals. It is crowded at any time but it gives the lively atmosphere. Beware of the pick-pocket, better to put your bags in front of you for safety reason. The price right there is relatively cheap; you can bargain the price too. Morning is better for it is cooler rather than the afternoon. Starting from April, this huge market open till the night; more opportunity to shop till you drop!

Yogya’s main market is a lively and fascinating place to visit. Batik, catering for tourist tastes and mostly of the inexpensive batik cap (stamped batik) variety, is sold here, but the warungs (food stalls), fruit and vegetable stalls and rempah rempah (spice) stands crowded towards the rear of the ground floor prove that this is still a traditional meeting point for vendors. The market is at its most atmospheric early in the morning.
