The city's own nature reserve with a surprising amount of game, including cheetah, white rhino, buffalo, wildebeest and eland. Great for a quick breakaway out of the city or for tourists who do not have time for a visit to one of the large game reserves. Easily accessible and with a restaurant and picnic spots.

The Rietvlei Nature Reserve has rhinos and other wild life. You can arrange for a guided drive and talk on lion interaction and witness feeding sessions. There is also a restaurant serving light meals.

The Rietvlei Reserve is a lovely place for a drive in nature and some game viewing right in the city. The reserve is made up of open grassland with undulating hills and indigenous trees clustered in small groups. It has a good selection of game including rhino. It is popular with birders and has a lovely bird hide overlooking the dam.
