The best bakery in the Outer Banks! Plus it has great breakfast sandwiches, such as Sunrise Schnitzel: chicken schnitzel, bacon, fried egg & cheese served on a challah roll (tip: add onions). Stuffed bavarian pretzels with tomato, onion & cheese. Great pasties: chocolate Berliner donuts, sticky buns, pear danish with port wine cream, chocolate croissants, pear tarts, honey buns, strawberry donuts, etc. Counter service. About 2 miles south (5-minute drive). 402 South Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Hills.

Low-key local spot that serves pastries, breakfast sandwiches and lunch options. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. You don't want to miss this place.

The cheese danish is incredible and the soft baked pretzels cannot be beat. Proof Bakery is the best on the island and serves up everything from coffee and donuts to burgers and breakfast sandwiches.
