1 hr drive, great views, family friendly, smaller mountain, locals favorite
Awesome views of Tahoe, and excellent terrain! Also one of the least expensive ski resorts in the area.
This is about a 5 minute drive away and the face runs have amazing views! We taught our kids to ski here. Good family spot and less expensive than Squaw / Alpine.
Homewood is a smaller more low key resort right on the west shore of Lake Tahoe.

“It shouldnt take you more than 3 hours to get to this ski resort where you can either go skiing in the sun for a day or stay overnight. There are also plenty of cabins for rent around Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake on Airbnb that are cheap and cozy. ”

“Boreal Mountain Resort is located 5 miles away from the Serene Lake House. Boreal is home to six lifts, two magic carpets, and 41 trails. Boreal also offers tubing, a terrain park, and the only night-skiing in the Tahoe area. ”

“The only video store in town and just like what was around before Blockbuster! Folks are really nice and they get everything new. (Redbox is at 7-11, Safeway and Savemart.)”

“Water comes from the ground, geothermal hot springs with 21 healthy minerals. Non-clorinated wter--at 210 degrees--not needed! Private rooms, massage available, steamroom and outdoor public spa if desired. Located at the south end of Reno, south of highway 431. Not a fancy place--just really healthy”

“River Ranch Restaurant is a mountain joy. Lunch outdoors overlooking the river rapids is always a great experience. It's a short drive from Tahoe City going towards Olympic Valley/Truckee. Alternatively, you can bike along the river on the paved bike trail from Tahoe City "stop for lunch" and continue onto Olympic Valley. The trail follows the edge of the river and is well maintained with "porta-pottys" along the way, if needed.”
