Lafayette Park was set aside from the St. Louis Common in 1836 and dedicated in 1851 as one of the first public parks, and by far the largest of its era, in the City of St. Louis, Missouri. It is considered by many historians to be the oldest urban park west of the Mississippi.

This park is not only full of old time charm, but is a place many of the locals frequent for a nice stroll or jog. There is a playground and several historic statues and cannons. You can even bring lettuce (not bread) and feed the swans or ducks. Iceberg is their favorite.

Drive or walk around Lafayette Square and see the "Painted Ladies" - beautiful mansard homes built before the turn of the century. Visit the park and learn about it's historical role during the Civil War. During the summer, weekends bring Saturday evening concerts and movie nights for the kids.

Nice quaint old world park plopped in the middle of St. Louis. You'll think you're in Victorian London.
