A state park with beautiful views of the mountain. Admission is $1-2 per vehicle. The pathways are mostly flat with some small hills. My favorite time to go is about an hour before sunset.

Elena Gallegos is a great place to go for a hike in the Sandia Foothills. Located just 2 miles east of our vacation home. Adventurous hikers can hike up the trail next to the access road and save the $2 parking fee upon entering the park, but beware: the access road is quite steep.

Hiking galore! $1 or $2 parking fee, incredible views of Sandia mountains, the city and huge area to enjoy sunrise, sunset or mid-day sun! Plenty of tables for those who pack a picnic as well! Affordable alternative to the tram.

A peaceful park refuge offering the best access to the Sandia Mountain Wilderness outside of the Tram. Contains miles of well marked trails with mountain views. Expect to see wildlife. There's an interpretive nature trail, bathrooms and several shaded picnic spots. Plenty of parking. Access is $1…

“Alameda open space is a scenic spot to walk, run, or bike. It’s great for any number of travelers to get some fresh air and enjoy time along the Rio Grande. My husband and I like to grab some coffee and cocoa for us and the kids at Satellite Coffee right down the street and head to the open space.”

“Their cinnamon rolls are unique, huge, and to die for. Order one and try it. This is a place I take first timers. You can also buy ones that are frozen to take home, but you have to buy a tray of them to do this. You can also go to Golden Pride Drive up for the same menu.”
