The mission of the Headley-Whitney Museum of Art is to enrich the life of the whole community by fostering knowledge, enjoyment, and appreciation for the arts. Named after its founder, George Headley III, and museum benefactors, Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney and Marylou Whitney, the museum features a fascinating and diverse permanent collection of fine and decorative arts, in addition to hosting both international and regional exhibitions. Set in the heart of the Kentucky Bluegrass, the Museum began in 1966 as a private delay gallery for George's own work. In 1968, he opened his distinctive Jewel Room and Library to the public. The Bibelot and Jewel Room, Library Collection, Shell Grotto, Whitney Estate Dollhouses, and Marylou Whitney garden create a unique and unforgettable experience for all of their visitors.
