The Runestone is PROOF of the Vikings living in the area long before Christopher Columbus. There are wonderful Viking and Native American historical items here. A must see for the region.

The Runestone Museum and Fort Alexandria house the famed Kensington Runestone. The museum also holds exhibits on Native Americans, early immigrant history, a memorial/gun exhibit, wildlife exhibit and hands on children's area. Next to the museum stands Fort Alexandria, a nearly exact replica of a stockade built in 1862. The Fort includes a general store and post office, log cabin, church, country school, blacksmith shop, washhouse, smokehouse, a 40-ft Viking Ship and Farm Equipment from years gone by.

The Runestone Museum tells the local story of a stone that was left by a group of Norwegians in the 14th Century. It was discovered by a farmer near Kensington in 1898 and has been a subject of controversy ever since. The site where it was found is now a state park.
