Food Scene

Quintessential New Mexican food. Owned by the same family as The Shed downtown. This is where the locals go when the world will stop if you don't have a chicken enchilada, veggie burrito, tamale, or green chile clam chowder. Plus there's parking! Veggie options. Mocha cake is dessert of choice.

Arts & Culture

This is the famous road of artists. Galleries abound. Old Santa Fe. Walkable. Places to stop along the way for cider, tea, etc. Spend several hours just roaming and at the end reward yourself with a stop at The Teahouse. On December 25, the street is shut to cars and every merchant and home is awash in farolitos and luminarios to celebrate the season. Hot cocoa and cider offered along the way. It's very cold, very pretty, and a bit crowded but fun and festive.

This is a world class museum mostly because of the Alexander Girard Wing. Thousands of bits of folk art arranged in scenes. Very kid friendly. Don't forget to look up as there are more pieces hanging from the ceilings. There is nothing like this anywhere else in the world.

While Santa Fe is awash in museums including the Georgia O'Keefe museum a couple blocks away and the Museum of Art across the street, the Museum of History includes the old Palace of the Governors where jewelry is sold under the portal and one of the oldest printing presses still in existence on this continent. The exhibits are engaging, the space surprising. Rotating exhibits have been of national interest.

About 30 minutes from the center of town to the ski basin. Good skiing, almost no lines except for about 5 days a year over Christmas, inexpensive as far as ski basins go, nice range of runs up through double black diamonds. Most tourists forget about this place and drive the 80 miles to Taos. Save yourself the time and spend it on the slopes. Stop at Ten Thousand Waves on your way down the mountain for a soak or dinner at Izanami.
