So low-key it's hardly even there, and really quite friendly, Prairie Whale in Great Barrington is the height of chic. It's not easy or comfort food, but it is remarkable farm-to-table and there's a whiskey bar. Open Thursday through Monday, 5 - 10.

Very good food indeed; people come from all over to eat at Mario's in New Lebanon. A perfect local place for a walk or hike for anyone. It's five minutes away from New Lebanon by car, with pond, stream, forest and beaver dams. A great place to snowshoe when the snow is deep too. The countryside around here is just beautiful.
This is a short, beautiful, newly implemented boardwalk passage in Lenox, walking you out into a marsh that still looks to be from the dawn of time. It will take you twenty minutes to go there and back while you're visiting Lenox, and seems like another world.

You can meet up with the Electric Trail in Nassau, NY, about 17 minutes west of us. There is a trailhead and parking at the town park. It is a great paved trail that runs from Albany to Hudson, passing through towns and backyards and roads and bridges. Great for biking because it is not too hilly, and always a great walk too.

A Saturday night 5 pm auction here in New Lebanon is a great experience, often with amazing values. Box lots often start at 4. Stop in, register, get your number on an index card and then see what happens. Try it even if you've never gone to an auction before. You could get something wonderful, and you probably will. Go earlier to review if you can.

Outdoor farmers market in New Lebanon town center on Sundays from 10 to 2. Local farmers supply a great array of produce, bread, cheese, meat and sweets from June to the end of October. In the parking lot next to the bank, across from Blueberry Hill.
