Food Scene

Slightly upscaled Thai that is still respectful to the essential spirit of the cuisine (as a house, we tend to be rather hostile towards Asian fusion, it is so often sloppily done). Relatively cheap too considering service, quality and pretty interior. The Massaman and Panang Curry are our go-tos. For the meat-eaters, their Gra Prow Kai Dow is fantastic.

Every time you are in the Upper East Side, make a point to drop by here. Any of their cakes will undoubtedly be among the best you've ever had. Ben and I swear by the Brooklyn Blackout and the Red Velvet.

4-min walk away from our doorstep. These are rather free riffs on the banh mi, but they're the reason our intersection always smells so gloriously of grilled meat. Grilled lemongrass pork shoulder banh mi is their headlining act. Phone your order in and pick up for 10% off.

Coffee shop frequented by the university community. No Wi-Fi so it is a cross between a primarily social cafe and lots of people banging out term papers away from the temptations of the web. Morning pastries are served fresh from the oven, so go early enough and have a danish or two. Also open fairly late. Ben and I like to end long days with one of their cakes.

Drinks & Nightlife

Our neighborhood specializes in dive bars. Of the selection this is perhaps the trendiest. Lots of space, cheap-ish drinks, and gets fairly packed as the night goes on.

The Met has been killing it lately with their rotating exhibitions. Ben and I are big fans of the podcast memory palace, and there are several shows revolving around pieces from the permanent collection. We have spent over a year promising to block out a day at the Met to listen to these episodes. We have unfortunately never quite gotten around to it. Perhaps you can go and try it out and tell us what you think?

Entertainment & Activities

Times Square is an easy bike ride through the park away from our apartment (use one of the many Citibike stations near our flat). This makes enjoying NYC's vibrant theater scene incredibly easy. We recommend checking out NYT's top critics' picks to see a full range of vetted experiences, from big blockbuster productions to small off-off broadway gems. There's always a handful of lottery or rush shows that you can see for very cheap through TodayTix.
