Great place for local seafood at a reasonable price. For food, I personally like the Ahi with Furikake as an entree, and the Ahi Bites for an appetizer. Also a great place to buy fresh island fish. Make sure to call early and ask what sort of fish has been brought in.

Best coffee in Kailua town without the crowd. Local hangout and people watching spot to enjoy a great cup of joe. Food is ok but you're going there solely for the coffee. If it's during the afternoon, make sure to swing next door to Olive or Oliver Boutique shops.

Protected by outer reefs, Kailua Bay is a great place to take the family for a nice swim in the ocean. Easy walking distance with a rented Kayak or Stand-up Paddle Board from Kailua Beach Adventures.

The most iconic portion of Kailua Bay, Ka'ohao (the original name for Lanika) boast spectacular views of the Mokulua (two islands). The best time to enjoy the beach is in the weekday to avoid weekend traffic from locals and tourists alike. Parking can be challenging on nice sunny days especially on the weekend. Abide by parking rules to avoid a ticket or being towed.

Short scenic hike to a beautiful waterfall just a few minutes drive from Kailua town and nestled just mauka (mountain side) of the quiet neighborhood of Maunawili. Again your best time to go there is when the weather is nice (so you don't damage the trails when they are muddy) and during the weekdays. Make sure to take any valuables with you on the trail and not leave them in your car. There has been problems in the past with break-ins though the neighborhood usually looks after its guests.

A short hike to old World War II pillbox installations to monitor incoming Japanese attacks. One of the best places for a picturesque sunrise photo from the islands. I would not recommend making the steep initial climb with any rains. Hiking during that time causes erosion and damage to the hillside. Parking is limited so go early and again a weekday activity is preferred over weekend.

Our local grocery store built over the years from the Sullivan family, a wide variety of grocery products you might need . Local foods and a good variety of seafood and tastiest of them all, Poke. A healthy snack, consider getting yourself a Poke Bowl with either brown or white rice. I'm more of a traditionalist and get the Hawaiian Poke (with 'Inamona and sea salt).
