Food Scene

Best veggie tacos in town (quite possibly the entire Pacific Northwest). You can order on flour or corn tortilla, we recommend ordering one of each. Sinking your teeth into a Worm Ranch dish is like stepping back into your abuelita's home in New Mexico, even if you didn't have an abuelita in New Mexico. Their burrito and torta are also worth trying.

Authentic, delicious Thai food at a 'hole in the wall' down the street from our place. It's run by a husband and wife team. She's Thai, and cooks like it. He's the host, and though he won't win any points for customer service, if you butter him up a bit, you'll find he's got a heart of gold. NOTE: They only accept cash or check, so come prepared.

If your parents (or grandparents) went to school here, they probably ate at the Iceberg. Iconic shakes and burgers. Gets busy in the summer.

Best donuts in town. Everything is made in house, no pre-mixed doughs here. Only bummer, is they're closed on the weekend.

Essentials

If your'e in town for a while and need some groceries, Andy's functions as not only a grocery store but the closest thing we have to a co-op or farmer's market in town. You'll find local apples and peaches in the fall, grown just down the road near Milton-Freewater.

Bennington is a great place for a run or walk. Dirt, paved, gravel, multi and single track trails wind through a quiet area at the base of the blue mountains.

Drinks & Nightlife

Unfortunately for many of our guests, we don't drink, so we are hopeless at recommending wineries. There are lots of them in almost every direction. Many of them have store fronts downtown, so you best bet for trying a lot in a small space would be to head there first. This one is listed because it's a gorgeous mansion made by a modern millionaire in the area.

Getting Around

If you're looking for a quaint drive on on the edge of the Palouse, take a jaunt to Dayton, WA. It's about an hour one way, and affords some quiet scenes of wheat fields and old barns. Dayton itself has a few museums and wineries of its own you can check out, but the drive itself is worthwhile.

Arts & Culture

Walla Walla has the oldest symphony this side of the Mississippi. At least, the oldest to run consecutively year after year. You won't be disappointed if you can grab a seat at one of their performances while you're here.
