Modern American Cuisine – voted Flagstaff’s Best Restaurant. One of our favorite places to grab a great meal (their risottos! Beet & citrus salad! Pork Belly! Pork Tenderloin! Gaaa we could go on and on). Next door is their bar, “The Annex,” with outdoor patio. 34 S. San Francisco Street. https://www.tinderboxkitchen.com

Seriously, the BEST pizza around. Wood-fired in their oven and seating only a handful of people around a community table, get ready to cozy up (and to wait). There is outdoor seating in the summer, but they also serve their pizza at Mother Road Brewery next door (get a craft beer AND a pizza #winning !) http://www.pizzicletta.com/

The menu changes often based on what’s in season locally, and it’s a small menu – we have yet to find something we don’t like! Love their Brussels Sprouts, Kale, and pasta. 107 North San Francisco Street http://www.shiftflg.com/

Thai food that is a favorite in Flagstaff – often busy with a wait! They do a heft take-out business if you’re looking to stay home, so keep that in mind. We love their panang curry and pad thai noodles (they’ll ask you for a spicy rating from 1-5, if you order 5 – you better like it hot!). 104 N San Francisco St. http://www.patothai.com/

This place is one of our favorite Happy Hours - $5 Neapolitan pizzas, salads, and pasta meals! They are located on Rt. 66 away from town, but we have been impressed every time – check out the chalk board at check in and ask about the seasonal roasted veggie plate – you won’t be sorry! Their pizzas are also to die for – we put them on par with Pizzicletta, with much more seating and more menu options! 2308 E Rt 66, Flagstaff AZ http://www.fatolivesflagstaff.com/

We love this little spot – and so do most Flagstaff residents! Live music on the patio in the summer, often a coffee cart outside while you wait. They serve bottomless coffee and a mean bloody mary, and of course mimosas. Totally owl-themed inside! There are two locations – one downtown across from Pizzicletta at 12 S Mike’s Pike (usually a wait here), and on the Eastside at 5200 North Cortland (farther drive from our house, but same menu and usually no wait). They have awesome avocado toast, breakfast burritos, and scrambles. http://www.thetoastedowl.com/

Antelope Canyon & Horseshoe Bend are about 2.5 hrs north of Flagstaff and incredible! Ribbons of sandstone are inside Antelope Canyon (you have to reserve a tour guide for this, so plan ahead!) and you can also stand above Lee’s Ferry and the Dam and take iconic pictures of Horseshoe Bend. Cinder Hills OHV area is so unique! It’s a series of volcanic cinder cones. You can climb up them (it’s harder than it looks – a pile of little pumice stones!), and the landscape is eerie. You will drive from a forest to something that resembles the surface of the moon. Start on HWY 89 going northeast out of Flagstaff, approx. 7 miles north of Flagstaff Mall, turn east (right) on Forest Road 776. Humphrey’s Peak is a strenuous hike up Arizona’s tallest peak – nearly 13K feet high. You’ll climb above the tree line near the summit where you’ll notice less oxygen! Stunning views at the top of all of Northern Arizona. It is often extremely windy above the tree line – bring layers of clothing to keep you warm, including a wind breaker.
