Food Scene

From the owners of restaurant Rijssel, a great new restaurant addition on the old marine area in town. A wonderful discovery. Located in the former navy quarters, on the waterfront. You can tell that the cooks love cooking: the food is superb. They have surprising courses, like a combination of veal cheek, heart (is a tender muscle, I didn’t know that), and brain. But our group also tried some less adventurous courses, and these were wonderful too. The interior is inviting, light and open. The staff is very friendly and can give some good advise on the wines that are all from Germany (surprisingly good by the way). The name comes from a 17th century device that was invented in this historic area (ask the waiter to explain).

Hotel de Goudfazant restaurant in Amsterdam North In Amsterdam North there are lots of good restaurants and Hotel de Goudfazant is one of them! Ever since the opening this huge restaurant is an even bigger succes. Hotel de Goudfazant has a real cool industrial interior and serves a 3 course menu for just over € 30,-. An other advantage: just like the other restaurants in Amsterdam North there’s enough parking space. And for the men among us restaurant Hotel de Goudfazant has an extra feature: oldtimer cars like a Porsche 911 that remind us on the former use of the building… a car garage!

Drinks & Nightlife

A’DAM Toren was designed by the architect Arthur Staal as a commission by Royal Dutch Shell. It was officially opened in 1971, and was home to the multinational oil company until 2009. The brand name A’DAM also stands for ‘Amsterdam Dance and Music’, which reflects the business of the owners and main tenants: ID&T, AIR Events and MassiveMusic. Staal designed the office tower at 45° to the IJ waterfront. This diagonal position (‘overhoeks’ in Dutch) gave the building its first name – and, in fact, informs much of A’DAM’s edgy, innovative and surprising personality. It is now a home to a mix of offices, cafés, restaurants, a hotel, an observation pointand a revolving restaurant.
