Sightseeing

The best way to explore Stavanger city centre is by feet.
Old town is a must-see while you're in Stavanger. It's almost not to believe that people live in these charming houses by the narrow streets. The old town and the area my apartment is, is part of the largest wooden house area of Northern Europe. It's a unique place, and the old town has hundreds of thousands visiting every year. Therefore, show respect for people's privacy and the houses:)

'Fargegata' or 'the coloured street ' is a must-see in Stavanger. You can go for a drink in one of it's hip bars or just go over to enjoy the nice atmosphere. The wooden houses are painted in sharp colours and gives a feeling of sun even on rainy days:)

The petroleum museum is located in Stavanger because it is Norway's petroleum capital. It's worth a visit to learn how Norway found oil and how it's become the country we have today.

Matkultur

Stavanger has so much more good food to offer than what you see at first sight. Pedersgata and Stavanger Øst are areas where you'll find everything else than franchises. The international and modern wibe is worth experiencing!
This is the most international street you'll find in Stavanger. From Asian and Middle Eastern to hip European food, you'll find it all here. Zouq (Pakistanian) and Gådjå (Ethiopian) are among my favourite restaurants. You'll also find a couple of international supermarkets, where you can find exotic groceries.

Tou Scene is located in the eastern part of the city centre, and there is held concerts and events at here, in an old brewery factory. You'll find many interesting bars and restaurants in the nearby area, and it's always a winner to stop by at Ostehuset (The Cheese House) where you'll find fresh pastries and other food. Worth visiting this area if you're staying for several days in Stavanger.

An atmospheric bar with a special touch. Gnu is a nice place to head if you want to escape the fuzz from Øvre Holmegate (coloured street) and the harbour bar streets. Go for a visit and have a beer while having a round of foosball!

We are historically and traditionally a christian country, so we still keep the shops closed at Sundays. You'll find groceries at some smaller supermarkets called Joker (g-maps for location).
