Tropical fusion cocktail restaurant / cafe (during the day). Mangle is a small venue where you can go grab some cocktails and try out assorted fusion dishes with Panamanian ingredients. Located in the heart of Calle Uruguay, a recently renovated walkable district walking distance from Bella Vista. If you see Carlos “Goma” Ossa, one of the owners there. The literal translation is "The Apartment and the Basement". The place has two spaces, the ground floor ("The Basement") is normally a bar / small concerns venue. The first floor ("The Apartment") is a gastropub where you can have a burger (including vegan options) and a couple of drinks. It's not a super fancy place. It's rather a more "underground" spot with an 80s flair.

Craft brewery and gastro pub also walking distance from Bella Vista. It's one of our favorite spots. It does not have a large menu but they do serve pizza and some other finger food. They have a varied assortment of local craft beers and have several amines incise (air conditioned, a rooftop and a "Biergarten" backyard)

Neighborhoods

Bella Vista is one of Panama's historic districts. Although newer than Casco Viejo, the original site of Panama City, Bella Vista is filled with architectural jewels from the early 20th century. It is also a relatively walkable neighborhood with a large park (Parque Urracá) at its center. Bella Vista is close to everything: a few minutes away from Casco Viejo and the modern city center. In addition to Parque Urracá, Bella Vista is next to Cinta Costera, a coastal road filled with bike and scooter lanes, sports areas, and nature. You will be walking distance from a subway stop (Estación Santo Tomás), Calle Uruguay (a popular spot to go for drinks, dining at restaurants and partying), two supermarkets (Riba Smith and Rey), two pharmacies (Riba Smith and Metro), and several foot truck locations.

Outdoor Activities

Parque Urracá is one of the city's larger parks. It is located just across the street from the property. It has a bike/scooter lane, a sidewalk to stroll or run, a basketball court, a baseball field, and a bar park. Depending on the time of the year and the weather, you might find yoga, tai chi, or capoeira classes at the park. It is also one of the connecting spots to access Cinta Costera, a strip of public space ordering the ocean.

Consejos para la ciudad

Cómo moverse

Walking around the neighborhood and Uber

Panama has a decent public transportation system but is mostly geared to getting in and out of the city for work. The subway is still being built, and buses can be a bit unreliable. Try to walk and use Uber. If you're moving around the neighborhood, you can also use the Chiva scooters. Taxis can charge you way more if they sense you're a tourist and they might refuse to take you to your destination randomly. I would stay away from them.

You can drink water from the tap, but we help you filter it

Panama's tap water is drinkable. We include a water filter bottle on our property so you can be extra safe. Restaurants that sense you're a tourist might try to sell you expensive water bottles. It's not necessary to buy them unless you really want to.
