The Roman Odeon in Kos Town was built in the 2nd century AD, was consequently damaged by the 142 AD earthquake, then repaired during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius (AD 137-161). The odeum was the venue for the public sessions of the senate as well as for music contests. It is very possible that competitions of encomia (high praise, eulogy) for the Roman emperors were held on the occasion of the quinquennial festival of the Great Asklepieia, when musicians and poets from Greece and Asia gathered on the island of Kos.

A unique beach experience located at Agios Fokas, on the southeastern part of the island, about 12 kilometers from the centre of the capital, you will arrive at Therma (also known as Empros Thermi), the most popular thermal spring in Kos. It should come as no surprise that Kos’ thermal springs have been well-known for their healing properties since antiquity- as it is, after all, the place where Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine was born.

The “Old Town” in Kos is a bustling pedestrian area with plenty of shops and lots of cafes and restaurants. The main street that goes through it starts off from Eleftheria square and ends up at Diagoras square. It is full of life during the whole summer period from April to end of October. It is definitely worth a visit.

Casa Romana is a Pompeian type villa of the late 2nd century and early 3rd century AD, built on the ruins of a Hellenistic house located in Kos. It features an outstanding drainage system and consists of 36 rooms and 3 opes spaces, the so-called atriums or atria. Truth is, external view of the building does not prepare the visitor for the impressive interior! But once walking through the main entrance of the building, located on the eastern side, one begins to perceive the richness of the Roman house's findings.

The pine forest of Plaka can be found through the road west of Antimachia, taking the 2.5km paved road that leads off right to the forest and its colourful, feathery creatures. The area hosts dozens of imposing peacocks roaming freely that seem to have been used to humans, as they often come by to grab some food. Suprisigly enough, the area hosts dozens of stray cats too, peacefully co-existing with this realm of peacocks, in the heart of nature.
