If you have never been here you need to check out the 626 foot Calgary tower. It was the symbol of the torch for the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics and featured in the Movie Cool Running with the late John Candy. The top has large gas flame that is lit for special occasions. It has a glass floor, a rotating restaurant slowly turning to give you a 360 degree view of the city every hour, and the famous Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on the lower level. You can also look at the offerings of the Rocky Mountain Railroad offering scenic trips to Vancouver in the lobby of the tower.

Great sports bar with outdoor patio. This is a popular hangout for the university crowd so is quite loud but the Stampede Burger with a Caesar combo is the best dinner drink combo going. FYI the Caesar is the Canadian Bloody Mary invented in 1969 at the Calgary Inn downtown (now Westin) by Dino Georgalis (not Walter Chell who worked out of Seattle) Clamato juice was developed from this drink. You are a 6min drive, 14 min bike ride, or 45 min walk away.

Consejos para la ciudad

Cómo moverse

Know where to park when going downtown. Google first.

Calgary boasts bike friendly but is not always car friendly. Downtown can be intimidating with one ways and bike lanes and parking is a challenge. Google where you are going fist with google maps and then look at surrounding parking, street, parkade, surface lot, and look at the prices and times i.e. tow away time, snow routes, evenings, weekends etc.
Cómo moverse

The Calgary Transit by day Uber/cab by night

calgarytransit.com or 403 262-1000 are excellent services to help you get around and some of the C-train routes are quite scenic. Transit is well used and efficient throughout the day. Calgary has had some challenges with drug activity at night and has added more policing to reduce the problem but I would suggest Cabs or Uber for evenings after dark.
Qué empacar

Calgary can have all 4 seasons in one day. Pack accordingly.

At the foot of the mountains Calgary can experience dynamic weather changes. In summer thunderstorms are quick to come and go. Consider a light rain jacket and/or umbrella for long unprotected outings or always be close to a pub to take shelter. In spring and fall temperature swings are broad and you can go from +15 to +2 in just hours, bring layers. Always check the hourly weather forecast before you go hiking or biking.
