City/town information

Located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley in California at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Clovis is situated in the midst of the richest agricultural area in the world. Founded in 1891, and incorporated in 1912, Clovis has long been known as "a way of life." The city has a rich western heritage and hosts the Clovis Rodeo every year during the last weekend of April. Other annual community events play up the ag region’s bountiful offerings and its small-town atmosphere, including the farmers market which runs every Friday night during the summer, Clovisfest, and beer and wine festivals. The area of Old Town is also known for fine dining and excellent antique and collectible shops. As the “Gateway to the Sierras,” Clovis offers many challenges for the outdoorsman, such as boating, water skiing, fishing, winter sports, world-class hiking, mountain climbing, and cycling. For a more sedate outdoor experience, Clovis boasts more than 13 miles of pedestrian and bike paths, and lovely areas for picnicking, jogging and bird watching. The self-guided Wildflower and Blossom Trails should appeal to almost anyone, but are especially ideal for photographers. Wine aficionados will enjoy the Fresno County Wine Journey, while visitors of all ages can experience the Fresno County Fruit Trail. No matter the time of year or area of interest, visitors of all kinds will find it easy to adapt to the Clovis way of life.
