This is short drive or bike ride; more local beers and wines with some great food trucks. My favorite is "Yardy" usually there Wednesday - Saturday opening at 4. West Indian cuisine. Some of the best fried chicken or if vegetarian, order their doubles -- fry bread with a chickpea curry served with the chef Isaiah's own fermented hot sauces. oh, and the plantains, swoon. DOP pizza is also excellent.

Fine dining at its best in Eugene. Locally sourced foods, with both a bar and dinner menu. Just a mile from the Alley House in the Historic 5th Street Market area. Reservations may be best for the restaurant (not needed for bar area). Provisions located in same building is owned by Stephanie Pearl--owner of both. There is also a Provisions South.

Favorite Locally-owned Grocery

If you want to stock up on pantry items for your stay. You DO have a full kitchen at the Alley House. I recommend the Kiva Grocery just .5 miles from Alley House. It's locally owned. It will seem small when you walk in, but you will be amazed at the amount of diverse and often organic items located in their store. It also has a well-stocked deli area that you can take home some pre-locally made food items. Yes, we do have a Whole Foods that is just a few more blocks beyond the Kiva, but "why?" when you can support a local grocer who has been active in our Eugene community for decades.

Layers are key

When I first moved to Oregon; someone told me there was never a bad day outside, it just determines what kind of coat to wear. Layers are great. We usually have mild to moderate temperatures; the nights do cool down. Late fall through late spring; some type of rain gear is recommended. FYI: Oregonians really don't use umbrella's...it's all about the right coat.

Eugene is a casual town

Eugene is typically a very casual town. Case in point, you can mingle at the symphony between people in tuxes to birkenstocks.
