Fascinating history here, and beautiful landscape views over the whole of Silves. There are various events and exhibitions hosted at the castle throughout the year. Excellent crepe options and iced coffee are served in the onsite cafe, (among other menu options), where it is simply essential to sit, relax and feel the weight of the history of the place. We highly, highly recommend the 'Sunset Secrets' evenings, where for a ticket price of around €5, visitors can enjoy a complimentary local drink on arrival, shows by various dance groups, music performances and also register for a 15min massage all included in the price of the ticket!)

Stunning medieval well, and countless other artefacts that have been dug up from the surrounding area. Don't forget to go upstairs and walk along a remainder of the castle walls for more brilliant vistas of Silves.

Every week sees a different band/group/duet and plenty of different styles, so if music is your thing make sure you book a table in advance.

The food here is great and both the lemon meringue pie and banoffee pie come highly recommended (we have sampled both many, many times, just to check for quality control you understand). On a hot day, the gazpacho is perfectly refreshingly cool too.

If you want to eat like a local, go where the locals do. Tasca do Béne offers a thorough menu with something for everyone, but watch out for the specials too, as there are some fantastic dishes which come up every now and again. Particularly good value for the 'prato do dia' on weekday lunchtimes.

Lucie makes wonderful pastries - try an excellent value cream tea, or cornich pasty, or any kind of cake because they're all delicious! Hot and cold drinks and all very reasonably priced considering the prime location in the shadow of the castle gates.
