About 15 miles away, this is the world famous project set in a disused clay pit. Good to visit, but quite expensive and can get very busy. Some good stuff going on there though.

Just a walk down the hill to this lovely little seaside village with it’s tiny church and harbour. Safe sandy beach and fish and chip shop.

A great walk from Sea Cloud to 300ft cliffs with views down the coast towards the Lizard, beyond Veryan Bay, and up the coast towards Plymouth from St Austell Bay.

This is a beautiful sandy beach with some lovely rock formations standing out from the cliffs. It is a good spot for surfing, in the right conditions, and for swimming. It is a good walk from Sea Cloud, for fit visitors, or you can take the car, but I advise you park in the National Trust car park at the top of the hill. The road is very narrow going down to the beach and there is little parking there.

Mevagissey is a bustling fishing village and tourist hot spot, around 2 miles from Sea Cloud. It can be tricky to drive through as the streets are very narrow and it has two way traffic in places. However, there are several car parks and it is probably best to approach the village from the St Austell direction if driving. Follow the main road back towards St Austell and after the Lost Gardens Of Heligan entrance, reaching the crossroads, turn right down into the valley. By taking this route you add several miles to the journey, but avoid meeting traffic on narrow roads. If you like a good walk, however, it is only a couple of miles following the road to Portmellon, (which is a pretty little inlet with a pub), and on to Mevagissey. A longer route, but very lovely, is to follow the coast path. Once there you can expect to find a variety of eating places, some shops, a chemist and a gallery, and the attractive harbour is a good place to sit with an ice cream or pasty (or both!) and watch the world go by.

Truro is the only city in Cornwall, and is a good place to visit for shopping with some nice quirky shops as well as the big names. It has a wide selection of eateries, a cinema, museum and the cathedral. There is also a ferry service to Falmouth, which is a great trip, taking in wonderful views of the creeks around Truro, and into more open water around the Carrick Roads. There are events in the area outside Marks and Spencer’s dependant on dates, such as Antiques Fairs and Farmers Markets etc. Truro is about 16 miles away.

Another pretty town by the sea, at the mouth of the river, this is a drive away, but worth the trip. Daphne Du Maurier lived here and wrote many of her most famous books here. There are some well known celebrities living here today, I believe. It is a very steep hill down into the town from the large car park at the top, but there are a couple of smaller car parks in the town, if you can get in them! Many places to eat and quirky shops and galleries.

The Crown at St Ewe is a good pub with food in a tiny hamlet just 3 miles or so from Sea Cloud. It can be busy in the height of summer so best to book ahead.
