Soar the heights of the Mornington Peninsula with scenic views across Port Phillip Bay towards Melbourne, around the coast and beyond. Gliding quietly through the sky in a gondola at Arthurs Seat Eagle, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve been transported a million miles away, rather than one hour’s drive from Melbourne. With uninterrupted views, framed by swaying gum trees and birdsong, grazing kangaroos and the trace of distant coastlines, you are immersed in a truly majestic Australian landscape. Named in honour of the Wedge-tailed Eagle, indigenous to the area and revered in local Aboriginal lore, the experience is one of flight through an area steeped in history and surrounded by nature. Soaring above and past the trees inside comfortable, all weather and fully accessible cabins, it's an awe-inspiring journey as you ascend quietly up Arthurs Seat. At the summit, you will find The Eagle Café. With amazing views from nearly every table and an expansive outdoor deck, there’s plenty of room to sit with a coffee and a snack or even a local wine or beer. You’ll also find locally made and inspired giftware along with Eagle souvenirs to remember your visit by. Parks & Nature walks

Merricks - Red Hill Rail Trail From Merricks, a walking track and equestrian trail passes vineyards and farmland, with distant views of the Nobbies and Phillip Island. Many gum and pine trees en route to Red Hill ensure sightings of parrots, thrushes, rosellas, silvereyes and many other birds, before you return along the same trail. WALK DESCRIPTION From the NW corner of the Station Ground Recreation Reserve, follow the trail uphill for about 2km. You will pass vineyards and have great views of Phillip Island, the Nobbies and Western Port Bay. The trail continues through farmland and down a short, steep hill before reaching Tomkins Rd. Here, the gradient becomes easier: the trail follows an easement which was once a local railway. The single-track Red Hill line, which opened in 1921, branched off the Stony Point rail line at Bittern, but it was relatively short-lived, closing in 1953. The rails were subsequently dismantled, and much of the line is now on private property, although the right-of-way between Merricks and Red Hill has been preserved as this shared-use trail. From Tomkins Rd, the trail passes through an avenue of gum and pine trees and two small cuttings, before reaching the Red Hill South Bushland Reserve (toilets), close to Point Leo Rd, for lunch. After lunch, retrace your steps along the rail trail, enjoying the wonderful views en route to Merricks, which is well-known for its General Store and wineries. Cautions: Watch for equestrians on the shared trail GETTING TO THE START From Wallaces Rd, turn left into Nepean Hwy. At roundabout, turn left onto Dunns Creek Rd C788 (which becomes the Bittern-Dromana Rd). After 7.6km, turn right into Merricks Rd for 4.3km then turn right into the car park entrance of the Merrricks Station Ground Reserve (230m before Frankston-Flinders Rd junction). (Melways 192 F9) Distance: 16km.

This beautiful circuit walk is located in a deep gully surrounded by native bushland vegetation including Eucalyptus forests. This walk is moderately difficult with hills and formed track offering views of the picturesque OT Dam which has a boardwalk around it. The main OT dam was built in 1934 by local men employed the OT Cordial Company (later to become Kia Ora Cordials) using horse drawn scoops with stone being carted for the wall/bank. Two dams were constructed for teh cordial companies irrigation purposes; this larger one in the timber above the property and a second smaller dam on Boundary Road (near where Collins Road is located). The company made a cordial called OT with chillies which is where the name OT came from. The business closed in the early 1940's probably due to lack of manpower due to the war. The walk is well sign posted and borders the Hillview Quarry. McCrae Homestead and Museum is located down the Mornington Peninsula in the coastal suburb of McCrae. Built in 1844 by Andrew and Georgiana McCrae, it is one of Victoria's oldest homesteads and a physical reminder of the life of early pioneers, using locally available materials. Georgiana was an accomplished artist, musician and diarist. Her sketches, housed in the museum beside the original homestead, contain the rare collection of 19th century family heirlooms and artworks. The two museums house the story of the McCrae's and the Burrell family. The Burrell's lived at the homestead from 1851 to 1925. McCrae Homestead is currently host to a cross-cultural education program in partnership with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, where primary school students can learn via hands-on activities about the culture and daily life of the local Bunurong people, who co-existed alongside the McCrae's, under the guidance of Taungurung woman and experienced Indigenous Learning Facilitator Samantha Trist. The site is currently in the process of including an example of a ‘Willum’—a traditional Bunurong dwelling—to serve as an interpretive installation in direct comparison to the existing colonial building. The interpretation will include a remnant camp site including examples of traditional Indigenous working tools. Accessible friendly: Disabled access available, contact operator for details. Opening Hours: Sunday: 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM 11 Beverley Road McCrae Victoria 3938 Phone: 03 9656 9889

40 Collins Road, Dromana Another to recently move into this growing gastronomic hub is the Bass & Flinders Distillery. The distillery was forced to look for new premises in December last year and could not go past the Collins Road industrial estate. In the bar and tasting room, visitors sip all manner of creations as they gaze across green pastures and the rolling fields leading up to Red Hill. For a decade Bass & Flinders has been making brandy, gin, vodka and limoncello. All their gin is wine-based, so the abundance of local vineyards were a natural resource for this spirited enterprise. While some of their products are available at local bottle shops, you can only experience the full range at their new Dromana distillery and tasting room. There is also a one-day masterclass where you’ll be taught the secrets of this popular spirit, blend your own gin, then take your bottle home at the end of the day.

Situated between Gunnamatta Surf beach and Rye Ocean Beach it faces the wild waters of Bass Strait. This is an excellent beach for beach fishing as permanent rip holes exist against the reefs and gutters along the rocks, creating a haven for fish. It is a popular surf location with many good breaks that attracts surfers all year round. It offers an exposed beach break that has fairly consistent surf, although in summer it tends to be mostly flat. It does experience dangerous rips and care should be taken. It is not patrolled and swimming is not recommended. Parking is available at the St Andrews Beach Car Park at the end of Paradise Drive.
