Kinidaros is the centre of the marble quarrying industry on Naxos but is also famous for its sheep and goat farming (all free range). Taverna Tou Vasilarakiou, as you enter the village coming from Kambones has absolutely the best of local meat and cheeses. Vegans will be disappointed but vegetarians will enjoy the range and quality of locally made cheese.

Taverna O Vassilis is an excellent family owned taverna in Melanes with a greater choice of dishes than are usually to be found in small family owned establishments. The view over the valley is beautiful too , choose a spot outside.

The archaic sanctuary above the kouros parking lot is well worth a visit. The signboards explaining the use of the site in antiquity are really illuminating and help you to travel back in time. This area inspired many developments in sculpture and architecture .

The archaic aqueduct (first constructed in about 700 BC and renovated by the Romans ) transported water from the kouros spring at Flerio right down to Naxos town , crossing a distance of 11 kilometres. It functioned until the Arab raids of the 8th century AD . The most astonishing elements are the two tunnels which were dug under the mountains and met at the same point, with a small divergence of 20 centimetres. There are very informative boards set up at the relevant points by the Ministry of Culture.

A fantastic hiking path leading from the secluded village of Keramoti to the 6 metre high Routsouna Waterfall. A small restaurant in Keramoti is open all year round and it is worth supporting a young couple making thier livelihood in one of the most remote villages of Naxos. This last has not been open this summer, will add information as needed.
