Mouille Point, Sea Point and Three Anchor Bay don’t have much beach to speak of - they’re more ocean front than beach. However, Saunders Rock at Sea Point has a little tidal pool and Three Anchor Bay has a tiny, little beach from which many sea kayakers embark. It's the promenade that draws people here. This walkway is right near the sea and is a haunt of joggers, walkers, dog walkers and families.

Oranjezicht City Farm (or OZCF). This has been described as a non-profit, neighbourhood-run farm project in the heart of the Mother City, designed to provide organic produce for local residents. Oranjezicht City Farm is actually so much more. Since its inception, it has used its convenient locale and its agricultural value to bring folks together, provide food, educate and entertain. Volunteers conduct guided tours through the farm to allow visitors to be part of the exciting projects underway, see the agriculture in action, and interact with those whose passions are so invested in the Oranjezicht City Farm.

At the foot of Cape Town’s vibrant Kloof Street, risen from a fairy-lit garden, lies a dining oasis. Set in a magnificent Victorian house, Kloof Street House is an experience as enigmatic as it is intimate. Our grand old dame is more than just a restaurant, it is a collection of interesting rooms and spaces, each bursting with a character of its own. The venue is everything for every occasion – live jazz over Sunday lunch, romantic candle lit dinners in our dining rooms or cocktails under the trees in our garden. Some of the best pizza I've ever had! This cosy little pizza spot is unpretentious, but very authentic. We ate luscious homemade pasta, followed by big, bubbling pizzas with thin crusts. Toppings are well-thought out, and not too zany. It's not a fancy place – but I'm giving them five stars because it's the kind of place I really love. And when you leave, it's with your bank balance largely in tact. Will be back – again and again!

I almost don't want to write this review for fear that it gets so popular I won't get a table on a whim every again, but this one is too good not too share and I believe in giving credit where credit is due. In my opinion this is the best Greek food in Cape Town and as it's actually cuisine I'm very fond of, I don't say this lightly. The staff are warm and accommodating. Food is consistently excellent. The mezze (halloumi especially), gyro, lamb chops, creamy tzatziki and bughasta dessert are always winners and our favourites. We eat here often and it's a real neighbourhood gem. Completely unpretentious and utterly charming.

Of course, what you’ll find will depend on all manner of changeable events such as the weather, seasonal ingredients and Jonny’s mood, but there will be a small set menu for those who enjoy eating their favourite dishes often. From a small set menu of comfort fare to the more adventurous blackboard specials, Jonny will bring his legendary flare to wow palates of any persuasion. But take note, once items are scratched off the blackboard they’re done for the day – so come early to avoid disappointment. Razzmatazz, that’s what comes through at The Shortmarket Club. Judging from the obscure entrance and skinny stairs, it has the feel of a closed members’ club. That feel continues into the décor of the bar area and the main dining room with its high ceilings, comfortable booths and smart waiters. Armed with blow torches for caramelising desserts and trolleys for showing off trays of meat, the service is slick and friendly.

Very few places in the world can get away with mixing high-end food prices with a boisterous dining room. Achieving this balance is an art of detail and no dining room does it better than The Pot Luck Club. Pared down tables offset with edgy urban details and sumptuous food hits the sweet spot. The towering vantage point of Woodstock and the surrounds doesn’t hurt, either.

This is another unmissable little stretch of places to party in Cape Town, with a hint of grunge. If you’re not a fan of clubbing in general but prefer a night where you can sip your drink whilst playing pool or seeing live local bands play in a (pleasantly) darkened bar, then head to Observatory for a low-key night out. Toasted oats, agave and curry leaf — not your average cocktail ingredients. But then, Outrage of Modesty is not your average cocktail bar. It's a small establishment on Shortmarket Street where, at most, 24 patrons enjoy a cool speakeasy vibe, lounging in booths under pictures of JFK and Jackie. Behind the laid-back facade, however, the art of cocktail making is embraced with the same seriousness as brain surgery. Owners Luke and Aki dedicate all the hours in their days to drinks that steam and sizzle as much in appearance as they do in taste. They also host the odd food and cocktail battle competing against the David Beckhams of the culinary scene. You want to be in the front row.
