Gorgeously maintained historic and expansive (and free!) gardens. There’s a reason everyone in Richmond takes their wedding photos here. Pack a picnic and enjoy the Japanese gardens, live bear exhibit or take kids to the petting zoo. A Richmond treasure.

A great spot for wonderful views of Richmond and gain a glimpse of history. Walk around Brown’s island (or attend an event!) and then walk across the Potterfield bridge for the best views of Richmond, stopping to read the markers with civil war history.

Near Brown’s island, cross the footbridge to unique Belle Isle. On the island, stroll along the wide walking path with stops to walk onto the rocks on the James River. When the water is low, you can get out pretty far! Keep an eye out for Heron nests. Finish the island loop and stop to watch people of all ages in the skate park.

When the water is low, you can get out pretty far! Keep an eye out for Heron nests. Finish the island loop and stop to watch people of all ages in the skate park.
Hidden, extensive park with multiple trails only 2 miles from our property (and right next to Trader Joe’s). Our favorite quick hiking spot. All trails are loops and well-marked. The park is not flat; it’s true hiking. Filled with trees and streams, you won’t believe you’re so close to civilization. Pop over to Trader Joe’s for snacks when you’re done. 😊
